Hymenoplasty Procedure

Hymenoplasty or Hymen reconstruction surgery is the surgical restoration of the hymen. . In some cultures and religions a high moral value is placed on being a virgin prior to the marriage. In spite of the conservative ideas about sex and sexuality in these places, there’s still a liberal culture at large which allows pre-marital sex and infidelities. Problems arise in communities which consider an intact hymen to be proof of sexual status.

The aim is to produce bleeding during post-nuptial intercourse, which in some cultures is considered as a proof of virginity.Contrary to popular belief, a hymen can rupture for a number of non-sexual reasons such as like-horse-back riding.gymnastics, insertion of a tampon, or falling astride objects. There are some women who are born without a hymen in the first place.

Even if the cause of a broken hymen is previous sexual activity, that shouldn’t herald the end of your life or devalue your marriage potential.

There are ways to fix a broken hymen discreetly and skillfully.

PROCEDURE – This surgery is done under Sedation and local Anesthesia. The torn hymen can be repaired in different ways. Simple suturing of the hymen remnants can sometimes reconstruct the intact hymen. Others may require mucosal flaps from the vagina to create the membrane artificially. Sometimes we perform the vaginal tightening procedure called Vaginoplasty along with the hymen repair.

AFFTERCARE – The patient will have to regularly clean the area with Anti-septic solutions and apply antiseptic gels. Heavy physical activity should be avoided for 3-4 weeks.

Hymenoplasty is a relatively safe procedure that has few risks and side effects. Like any operation it carries a small risk of infection and prolonged bleeding.Overzealous correction can lead to ‘stricture’ or hymen over-correction. In this case the opening becomes narrowed, making the next act of intercourse difficult. This however will only very rarely causes problems in the long-term.
